BegE-Rate/CTF Lassen VC

Beginner's E-Rate & CTF Training - VC 

This training was designed by and will be presented by California E-rate Focus Group to assist California school districts, libraries, and county offices of education in the E-rate & CTF application processes. Training will run approximately seven hours with the opportunity to ask questions. The agenda will include the following topics:

  • Pre-Application Process – What is needed before an entity can apply for E-rate funding?

  • A Walk-Through of the Program – The use of the USAC web site and how to navigate and file forms. In addition, other items such as Tech Plans, CIPA (Children’s Internet Protection Act) will be covered.

  • Beginner’s Do’s and Don’ts – How to avoid simple mistakes that can cause big problems.

  • Form 470 & Form 471 – A walk-through of the Form 470 & 471 process using a telecommunication application as an example.

  • Documentation of Best Practices – Guidance on the importance of documenting your work and decisions. A brief overview of preparing for audits and USAC reviews will be covered.

  • Review of the California Teleconnect Fund (CTF)Review of the CTF process and the discounts it can provide school districts and libraries.

Who Should Attend?

·         E-rate applicants from school districts (including private/charter schools) and libraries who are new to the E-rate process. (This training will cover basic E-rate items. If you are new to E-rate, we would encourage you to take this training PRIOR to attending the Intermediate/Advanced trainings.)

·         E-rate service providers

Class Prerequisite:  To review all training materials that have been sent out prior to the training. Also to review online resources at the USAC and CDE/HSN E-rate training websites:

(Note: We highly recommend attendance at an Intermediate/Advanced workshop also).

There will be a recording provided on-line of the beginner’s training for applicants to review from their site after the trainings.  (Note:  It will take approximately 3-5 days before the video is posted.) 

Presenter:
Russ Selken (Butte COE & K12 HSN) and John Vardanega (CDE) will lead the training and expert panel members will focus on their areas of expertise.
